Rise of the Alstalar
“My hatred burns through the cavernous deeps. The world heaves with my torment. Its wretched kingdoms quake beneath my rage.”
The first orc to consume the flesh of Matum began to suffer as was warned. He ate and ate, unable to satiate his appetite. And yet, despite his excruciating hunger he gained weight continually. Eventually, maddened by his pitiless hunger, he began to kill orcs and commit horrific acts of cannibalism. Chased into exile, his growth continued unabated and he too achieved an apotheosis, becoming the orcish god of death, Kraal. Now an insane, grotesque agent of Matum, Kraal seeks to consume the spirits of all orcs in order to effect the creature’s reformation. Because the orcs believe that Kraal lives deep below the earth, orcish culture has a propensity to distrust many things found in or produced from the earth. This contributes to the orcish rejection of grain foods, since wheat, growing up from under the earth, is very suspicious to them.
Some orcish tribes, in order to trick Kraal, take non-orcish captives in battle or in raids and burn them as empty, illusory sacrifices to the god of death, offering the inferior blood of these sacrifices in place of their own.
